Navigate the Evolving PFAS Landscape with Confidence

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a family of thousands of man-made chemicals used in countless consumer and industrial products. Known as "forever chemicals" because they don't break down naturally in the environment, PFAS are facing increasing regulatory scrutiny worldwide. GoCompliance.com provides the tools you need to proactively manage PFAS compliance and protect your business.

Understanding PFAS and Global Restrictions

PFAS — short for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances — refers to a large group of synthetic chemicals used for their water-, oil-, and heat-resistant properties. Commonly called “forever chemicals,” PFAS are extremely persistent in the environment and human body, leading to growing health and environmental concerns.

Because of their widespread use and durability, PFAS can be found in everything from non-stick cookware, textiles, and electronics to semiconductors, medical devices, and firefighting foams.

Regulators worldwide — including the European Union, the United States, and Canada — are taking aggressive action to restrict PFAS under laws such as REACH, TSCA, and new state-level PFAS bans.

Who Must Comply

PFAS regulations are expanding rapidly and affect manufacturers, importers, and distributors across multiple industries:

EU Manufacturers and Importers

Under REACH, a broad restriction proposal is being developed to ban the manufacture, use, and placing on the market of most PFAS substances. Companies must identify PFAS use in their products and prepare for upcoming reporting and substitution requirements.

U.S. Companies

The U.S. EPA has issued new rules under TSCA Section 8(a)(7) requiring manufacturers (including importers) to report PFAS usage dating back to 2011. Many U.S. states — such as California, Maine, and Minnesota — are implementing additional bans in consumer products.

Global Supply Chain Participants

Suppliers providing materials or components containing PFAS must disclose full substance data to their customers. Transparency is essential to ensure downstream compliance with evolving PFAS restrictions.

Non-Manufacturing Companies

Even brands or distributors that do not produce chemicals can be affected if PFAS are present in their packaging, coatings, or textiles — making due diligence and supplier engagement critical.
